Matsu Birthday Celebration

Not only I work there often, but spend there often too. Yea, again, I am back to Matsu for some kind of birthday celebration. What a routine for me to go there…I really wish there are more places to dine out in Peterborough. Nevertheless, I got so many free food from my owner though. So, it’s a trade off thingy. And luckily, Lansdowne Place, a shopping mall in Peterborough, is having an expansion. I hope to will bring in more shops and choices for the poor consumers here.

The girl in the middle is the birthday girl. And she looks extremely like my 3rd sister!  Not only looks, but attitude as well!

And the random money on the table..-__-

Fruits boat the restaurant would give as present for any birthday people. And the owner will also take picture and stick on the wall as memory which looks like this.

Sin Chan’s mum, the princess, the bunny, pirate with beard and the mean kitty.

I shorten my fringe and my hair length is longer. I actually prefer me with longer hair…

Something extra. Siew cooked us Curry Laksa this morning and it taste like heaven! I am not lying but I almost teared after tasting it!

She tried her best looking for the ingredients. Instead of real meat, we got hot dog instead..lol.

Happy Eid!

It’s been a year since I last blog about Hari Raya! Time flies is all I can say. And today will be officially the last day of summer…T.T

So, this year, instead of paying for my own Raya food, I got invited to this open house held by Malays. The numbers of Malays in Trent increased dramatically because most of the juniors from Malaysia are Malays. There are 7 of them in total! Whoah~ They are here just in time since I need good food so much!

DSC00467.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC00462.jpg picture by nanalyhui

There was a girl from Bosnia who kept making compliments about the food! And I think she had 4 rounds in total! OMG~But undeniable, it’s super delicious.

DSC00465.jpg picture by nanalyhui

So much! They brought those from home.

DSC00483.jpg picture by nanalyhui

It’s our flag!

DSC00477.jpg picture by nanalyhui

All are malaysians except the girl besides me.

Hehe…

Ritz Deli North

After so many times of passing by, I finally bought myself a meal from this restaurant. This restaurant is located on the way to downtown, so not strange that I would walk pass it at least few times in a week. Not able to resist our hesitation, the Korean and I went to have a try.

Actually this is my 2nd time going, but failed to take any photos during my first time because I left my camera at home. I had chicken curry which cost $12.99cad and it tasted so much better than the real curry cook by real Indian..LOL

For the the second time, we had the special and one pizza.

DSC00421.jpg picture by nanalyhui

The atmosphere is great and with funky music. Great for drinking instead of eating.

DSC00423.jpg picture by nanalyhui

We were the only customers during that time. Good idea to avoid the rush hour as our food will arrive faster.

DSC00426.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Big head Jae.

DSC00429.jpg picture by nanalyhui

The pizza $12.99. Bad quality of picture because of no flash.

DSC00430.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Special $18.99. Oven baked chicken with potatoes.

Overall, the food was not bad. But I did noticed something. I think the restaurant is not the best in preparing their specials but those on the menu are definitely worth trying. The more frequently you cook something, the better it gets.

p/s: All the food is prepared in an open kitchen and the ingredients they use are fresh too!

Karma Cafe

There are not much things I can do in Peterborough, but I always try my best to gain some dining experiences here. So, I went to this restaurant aka cafe 2 days ago in order to try out different cuisines that are available in this county.

I know this place because my lecturer told us to go as she thinks it’s one of the must-go places to dine out.

DSC00391-1.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC00394.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Too blur without flash.

DSC00395.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Chicken satay $13.99cad. Convert to ringgit, I can eat countless of the tastier version in Malaysia.

DSC00396.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Bami Goreng $13.99cad. Weird name and abit too salty.

However, because the place serves South Asian food which I started to have since I was a baby, so  overall it was quite a big disappointment. Maybe it tastes fantastic for the locals but certainly not me who is from a South East Asian country, Malaysia.

Top 10 Favourtie Childhood Junkfood

Yeah…My life is boring as hell. Nothing new happened, no nothing! So I might just blog about the things about myself.

I don’t know why, I kept thinking about food I had back in Malaysia recently especially ones I had LONG time ago.

10. Egg Sweet(鸡蛋糖)

I personally don’t like sweet stuff but which kid never had sweet before? So, this is a sweet where it looks like birds egg. I always get it from the cafeteria because it’s only RM0.20 each. But the price had already increased because of inflation. I seriously hope someone would know which sweet I am talking about.

9. Sweet with plum inside

Heh, I actually can get this sweets in Canada. It’s so widely spread huh! You have to keep eating and be patient before you get to get the plump inside!

8. Sweetened dried coconut meat flakes

The one in school comes with 2 colours which are pink and white. I like to eat it very slowly because I like the taste of it in my mouth. I only like the one from school because the rest don’t taste like it at all.

7. Mr. Potatoes Chips

I think the football player expression looks funny. LOL

This is the most expensive local brand in Malaysia. I can only had it once in a blue moon. And now in Canada, I can have Lays whenever I want!

6. Da Fa fish stripes

You can find this in every houses during Chinese New Year. It’s like a symbol of CNY because no way you are not going to serve it to the guests. However, I don’t really like it anymore after I grew up.

5. Mamee monster

File:Mamee pic.jpg

It’s like normal noodles but the different is that you can eat it instantly without cooking it. You have  to crunch the noodles and put in the seasoning comes in the packet. There are many flavor but the one I like the most is BBQ~

4. Apollo Chocolate Layer Cake

Apollo by chyu123.

Gosh…this is so memorable. I had so much of it because my sister like chocolate very much. So, she will always buy us extras.

3. Apollo milk wafer

I can’t find the milk flavour one! So, it looks something like this just the chinese characters will be different. It taste so good and so cheap as well.

2. Hotdog bun

HotdogBuns.jpg Hot Dog Buns image by lindsaysbakery

There is a kind of vendor in Kuching where you sell stuff like vegetable, meat or anything else in a van! So, the van will just come over to your neighborhood and honk just to let you know that the van has arrived. Whenever the van that sells buns comes,my sister will treat us with different of sweet treats! And one of them is hotdog bun. However, it’s one of the more expensive kinds so we can only have it once in awhile. Instead, we get those where the bun topped with icing and chocolate which cost only 20cents that time!

1. Vanilla ice cream

Even though I still like ice-cream alot but still not as much compare with when I was a kid. I don’t mind with the brand at all but I personally like the ice-cream sandwich.

And mostly the one I get is the cheapest brand which is 美利华. However, compare with the multinational brand like Baskin Robbin, I still like that the best!

Steamboat aka Hotpot

I never thought I can have steamboat using a rice cooker only until today! Siew Lung came up with this idea that we can use a rice cooker instead of the real cooking pot or whatever you called it. At first, I was like: Is this going to works?? In the end, it turned out to be workable! So, whoever needs to have steamboat without buying the cooking pot can try this out!

DSC00283.jpg picture by nanalyhui

We have lettuce, broccoli, fish balls, fish cakes, sausages, squids, prawns, meatballs, tofu and etc.

DSC00285.jpg picture by nanalyhui

HAHA…They are preparing for the ingredients! Btw, yea, this is where I am living now. Looks crappy and messy~

DSC00289-1.jpg picture by nanalyhui

See! I told you…I am not lying~ It tasted superb and it’s tom yam style!

It’s always so enjoyable to have steamboat at home or outside. I used to had it alot when I was studying in Taylors since my KL friends are addicted with it.

TISA Dinner

I dont know what the heck the dinner is for, but I went there simply just for the food! muahhaha…I know it’s not something luxurious, but at least I did something different from my boring daily routine such as eating the cafeteria food! XD

DSC01444-1.jpg picture by nanalyhui

The dessert. Omg…it was sooooooo fcking sweet! It’s like syrup all over that piece of thing!

Overall, the food was ok. Worse than I expected though…= = I thought the dinner is going to serve something like curry, nasi lemak or laksa! But…I guess I was wrong..LOL

By the way, I still like my short hair like crazy! Some vain photos to share..wakakkaka

Reading Week

You know what I did the most during reading week? Certainly not reading, studying or researching. Yea, I was eating everyday like crazy. I was so unproductive for the whole week but my mouth was working to its maximum level! So, "reading week" should not be called reading week but eating week! I put on so much weight within only one week and it’s hell yeah shocking!

1) Hot Belly Mamas

This is one of the best western restaurants in town and it serves food preserved with different kinds of spices. It also has the the best sweet potato fries in town! But, I still think sweet potato tempura taste better!

It’s a great place to dine out at night and liquors are served too for people whose intentions are not on the food.

DSC01299.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC01296.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Weird balls called Hush Puppies.

Darkened Chicken. I hope it’s not burnt…

These photos were stolen from Jae’s facebook.

2)Yees Restaurant

One of the chinese restaurants in town! Own by a friend’s parents. I dont know what the hell he was thinking about, but apparently he invited me over to his place for dinner for free! Aren’t you think I am lucky to have such a friend?

DSC01287-1.jpg picture by nanalyhui

First time wearing cap!

DSC01289.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC01290.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Maybe they were just typical chinese food. But, when you dont have many selections, they are like the angels from the heaven!

3) Sapporo

It serves sushi in buffet style which means all you can eat! Sushi used to be the luxurious food that I cannot afford to eat. But here in Canada, by just paying 13 dollars for lunch and 21 dollars for dinner, you can have all kind of sushi and shasimi(how to spell it?)you always wanted!

We went there because Doris was celebrating her birthday by having a lunch together.

DSC01339.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC01349.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC01343.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Doris the birthday girl!

DSC01351.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Heh..I was taking picture and the girl suddenly popped out~

DSC01347.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Alright alright…i will take one with you…XD

DSC01342.jpg picture by nanalyhui

I ate more than what you can see here!

DSC01344.jpg picture by nanalyhui

DSC01348.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Deep fried banana in turnip shape! Cawaii~

4) Curry Village

This place serves Indian food which is always so irresistable! Indian food always taste fantastic even though it’s hard to tell the differences between the meals. All you can taste are spiciness, souriness and of course tastiness~

All the Malaysians students in Trent were invited by some sort of Malaysian government officer for a lunch. Of course, it’s free as it’s sponsored by the government. Our government may not be the best but it always serves its people with nice food! This officer job is to make sure everyone has her contact and EAT most importantly…

DSC01387.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Got to dress appropriately so a Polo T-shirt will do.

DSC01392.jpg picture by nanalyhui

I can assure you that these dishes are not cheap(2 more dishes are not included in this photo), I think it’s more than 100 dollar for 4 people served. And there were 15 people together! So there were 3 groups of us, which means 3x100=300 dollars, which also means 1000 malaysian ringgit! Some were not shown up, luckilly.

You know what’s funny? 5 of them were not Malaysian students, so I was wondering is the gathering for students or the people who are non related to it? Hmm..so, this is how government is spending its tax payers’ money!

DSC01393.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Look how serious and quiet these people were while eating!!!

5) Siew’s cooking

I have to list this out too because her cooking is superb! AHAHAHHAH…envy me because I get to stay with her for 4 years without having food problem as my challenges! No picture were taken but they always will stay with me in my mind…

Lastly, a photo of me to end this post!

DSC01368-1.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Muakksss! Love you all~

DSC01336.jpg picture by nanalyhui

Look! My hand got swollen!!

p/s: All the food were not paid by myself. Either it’s free or paid by Mr. An Jae Kiun. Fat yet lucky!
